Williamsburg, VA, January 31, 2003

The Judicial Information Center (JIC), Courtroom Connect, and The Courtroom 21 Project announced today the launch of high-speed wireless Internet access and printing services throughout the New Castle County Courthouse. This new initiative enables attorneys to bring their firm's network resources into the courthouse, allowing litigators to utilize the full benefits of Internet and computing technologies. Cheryl Kingston, Director of the JIC says, “We are excited to use the latest technology available to both serve the public and improve the trial process.”

Richard Herrmann, a partner at Blank Rome says, “With the service, lawyers can coordinate urgent matters online with experts, colleagues back at the office, and have widespread access to the latest and most time-sensitive information available”. In addition, Mr. Hermann states, “The Delaware Bar Association is also deploying a similar wireless service.”

Professor Fred Lederer, Director of Courtroom 21—an on-going international demonstration and experimental effort which seeks to determine how technology can best improve all components of the legal system—and courtroom technology expert who helped develop and launch Courtroom Connect's nationwide services, explains how attorneys utilize the system: “An attorney sitting at the counsel table can now immediately access case precedent and trial databases that contradict testimony at critical points in the trial”.

Courtroom Connect (www.courtroomconnect.com), a third-party ISP, is providing the new service at no cost to the Court. In addition to the Delaware Courthouse, Courtroom Connect provides wireless (Wi-Fi compatible) Internet access to several courthouses throughout the country, including New York , San Francisco , and Oakland . Michael Breyer, CEO of Courtroom Connect states, “We are excited to help litigators bring their office resources to court.”
